How to give an effective 30-second commercial

  • Must be 30 seconds in length only. Going longer hurts you because people tune out.
  • Need to focus on one aspect of your business or service - not everything you do. Too much information also makes people tune you out. Next week you can focus on another aspect or product of your business.
  • Stand up quickly when it's your turn. Appear motivated and excited.
  • State your name and name of company at the beginning of your commercial and again at the end of your commercial.
  • Be clear in describing what your business does. Use language everyone will understand and relate to.
  • Focus on what makes you unique: do you specialize, personal service, licensed, or what?
  • Your commercial should tell me why I want to do business with you.
  • Write down 50 words that describe you and your business. Use those words to create your commercial.
  • Practice in the mirror - and practice it smiling.
  • Don't fidget while giving your commercial.
  • Bring visual aids - people learn different ways and remember different ways.
